Veterans UK (formerly the Veterans Agency and War Pensions Agency) are a Department of the Ministry of Defence which provides essential support services to the armed forces and veterans including:
• allowances
• pensions
• compensation payments to those injured or bereaved through service
• 1 to 1 veterans welfare support

The Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committee (VAPC) is an independent body which acts as a bridge to:

• advise and guide UK Veterans of their rights and where to turn in the complex world of government pensions and other allowances.
• listen to complaints when things go wrong and, where possible, help to sort them out
• assist Veterans in obtaining help from the appropriate ex-service charity or government department.

VAPC Chairmen and Members are Public appointments approved by the Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans. The posts are voluntary but travelling expenses and loss of earnings are payable. For those interested in applying for the roles this is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in promoting the interests and welfare of Veterans and their families. There is a requirement for a new Chairman for the North West of England (the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside), a new Chairman for the South West of England (covering the counties of Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset , Wiltshire and the Isles of Scilly).

There are also openings for new committee Members for the North East of England VAPC an area covering Cleveland, Durham, and Northumberland, and the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear, although applications would be particularly welcome from individuals based in rural Northumberland and from members of the medical profession.

Should anyone be interested in applying, the posts are currently being advertised on both the Public Appointments and the .gov.uk websites and will close on 15 May 2015.  Please visit www.cobseo.org.uk/positions-available-in-the-veterans-advisory-amp-pensions-committee-vapc for more details.
